Why Encountering God in His Word Still Matters

An Invitation to a Slower, Deeper Way of Reading Scripture
There are few things more familiar—and more quietly confusing—than the Bible.
Many of us have read it for years. We know the stories. We recognize the verses. We understand its importance. And yet, somewhere beneath our faithfulness, a quieter question often lingers: How is this meant to shape my life right now?
For some, Scripture has become informational. For others, intimidating. For many, it has become something we believe in deeply but struggle to engage with meaningfully. We read, but we aren’t always sure how listening turns into discernment, or how knowledge becomes trust, or how words on a page translate into faithful movement in real life.
This series begins there.
Not with answers to master, but with a posture to recover.
From Studying the Bible to Encountering God
The Bible was never intended to be approached only as a text to analyze. It was given to form us—to shape how we see God, ourselves, and the world. Scripture is meant to be a place of encounter, where God meets His people, forms trust, and invites response.
That kind of encounter rarely happens all at once.
It happens slowly. Quietly. Often without fanfare.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that many of our frustrations with Scripture are not the result of indifference or lack of discipline. They come from expectations Scripture was never meant to fulfill. We want clarity when God offers presence. We want certainty when God invites trust. We want a map when

cScripture promises a lamp.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
A lamp does not show the entire road ahead. It gives just enough light for the next step.
Why This Series Exists
This series—Encountering God in His Word—is an exploration of what it means to read Scripture not simply to gain information, but to recognize where God is already at work and how He is inviting us to respond.
It’s written for those who:
- want Scripture to shape real decisions
- sense God’s leading but feel unsure how to move
- are tired of spiritual formulas
- long for a faith rooted in trust rather than certainty
Each post will explore a different aspect of encountering God through Scripture—making room, listening attentively, trusting without full clarity, choosing consistency over intensity, and learning to walk with God one faithful step at a time.
These reflections are drawn from pastoral experience, lived faith, and the quiet ways God forms His people over time. They are not meant to rush you forward, but to help you slow down enough to notice where God may already be speaking.
A Word About the Pace
This series is intentionally unhurried.
Scripture itself unfolds slowly. Faith matures over time. And transformation rarely happens through sudden insight alone. It comes through repeated encounters with a faithful God who meets us again and again in His Word.
Some posts will tell stories. Others will linger in Scripture. Many will ask questions rather than provide answers. All are written with the same hope—that Scripture might become less something we rush through, and more a place we return to.
An Invitation
If you’ve ever felt unsure how to listen for God’s leading…
If you’ve ever hesitated because the next step felt unclear…
If you’ve ever wanted Scripture to shape more than your understanding…
This series is for you.
You don’t need the whole path illuminated.
You don’t need perfect clarity.
You only need enough light to lift your foot.
And Scripture has always been enough for that.
How to Use This Series
You can read each post on its own, or follow the series from beginning to end. Over time, these reflections will also form the foundation of a longer work exploring what it means to encounter God in His Word as a way of life.
